Physician • OB-GYN Specialist • UN Advisor • Entrepreneur
Dr. Philip Mwalali is one of the five Kambas in the Diaspora who felt the need to have an organization that brings the Kambas in Diaspora together for development. He is a physician, an obstetrician gynecologist and reproductive health specialist with an entrepreneurial mind and a deep passion for community-based initiatives.
Dr. Mwalali worked at Kenyatta National Hospital where he served as both a consultant and lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nairobi, before accepting a tour of service to the United Nations Systems — UNDP, UNFPA, and WHO.
Under his UN assignment as Technical Advisor, he provided technical assistance across multiple countries in Africa:
Despite his global career, Dr. Mwalali remained deeply connected to his community in Kilisa Village, Kiteta location, Makueni District. Upon return from his UN assignment, he set up the African Economic Foundation (africaeconomicfoundation.net), organized his village community and started providing guidance for community participation as a key strategy for sustainable development. Through initiatives such as subsurface dams for small-scale farming, Kilisa Village started transforming into a "Center of Excellence" in community-based initiatives.
As ADADO Co-Founder and President, Dr. Mwalali brings his extensive medical expertise, UN experience, and entrepreneurial vision to the organization. His experiences are instrumental in the development of Centers of Excellence — a model ADADO is keen on expanding elsewhere in Kenya and Africa at large.
"Community participation is the key strategy for sustainable development — when a village transforms, a nation transforms."
Dr. Philip Mwalali — Co-Founder & President, ADADO
